AKTinMotion Flagship Opening

Earlier in November, my trainer, friend and overall superstar, Anna Kaiser, opened up her flagship AKTinMotion studio on the upper east side! Anna and I met last year when I was trying to lose weight for my wedding; we became fast friends and I not only lost 20 pounds while working out with her, I’ve also become friends with her and a great group of women. I always tell my friends and coworkers to take a class with me; some people even think I have equity in AKTinMotion because of how often I talk about the classes! The studio is gorgeous; it’s on the fourth floor on 84th street (between Second and Third) and has three workout rooms, a private massage and accupuncture room, and office, and there’s a seating area so you can come in a little early and read magazines, grab a coconut water, or just talk to the friendly receptionists and account coordinators. The main room is large, has great floors that don’t make your feet or knees hurt, and even has a disco ball!

The program is addictive; once I started going, I saw the results right away (I mean, 20 pounds off my frame is quite a change). I continue to go because it doesn’t feel like a workout but I’m still sweating a ton and challenging my body on a daily basis. I’d love for my readers to try the classes sometime – if you do, please let me know when you’re going to class because I will most likely be in the class!

Hi Grace. I love reading your blog especially about AKT. I will be in NYC April 3-6 and want to do a class every day if I can. Can you please tell me what hotel would be close to the studio so I can walk there? I was thinking of the Surrey. Is that close by?
Also, what classes do you recommend? Which classes are usually less busy?
Hopefully, I will see you in a class!

Hi Irene – thank you for your comment! So amazing that you are going to be in New York City – The Surrey is pretty close to the studio (as are the Mark, The Carlyle, and The Franklin Hotel). They are all a subway ride away, although in April, it will most likely be nice enough to walk to the studio! It’s located on 84th street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue (closer to 2nd).

As for classes, I recommend the AKTease class on Thursday to get started (if you’ve never done dance cardio, AKTease is a great way to learn the basic steps, get a feel for the studio, and also get your body ready for the rest of the week!). On Friday, if your body is up for it, do the 7am happy hour! It’s a great way to start the weekend and it’s early enough that you can go sightseeing afterwards. The lockers/showers are also very luxurious (probably better than most NYC apartments!) so you can get ready for the day at the studio as well.

My favorite class of the week is Friday night at 6pm, another happy hour class. On Saturday, try the 4Play class (circuit training + cardio), then on Sunday, do another happy hour before you head back! The classes are never so full that you’ll bump into anyone and the instructors are all wonderful. Let me know which classes you decide to attend – I usually go at night because I can’t go during the day, but I’m jealous that you’ll be able to go any time! You’ll have to say hello if you see me in class! Feel free to email me if you have any additional questions – I love telling people about AKT!
